Pearl Milk Tea is free for all members who have filled out this short membership form so if you haven't filled it out yet, here's your chance! http://bit.ly/15Hg65w. If you have a friend that would like to come and drink PMT without becoming a member, a $3 donation is recommended :) Bobo Up! MV Chinese Club
Due to a certain random happenstance, our meeting will be postponed and moved to Friday during Lunch in A203! We will still have lots of food and will celebrate all we can so be prepared! Also feel free to check out RP's Halloween Costume Contest tomorrow at Lunch for a chance to win prizes! See you Friday! MVCC Hey MVChinese Clubbers! Our third meeting of the year will be dedicated to all the spooky scary spirits that roam around us this time of year including vampires, zombies, and foxes as well as some of the unfortunate tasks and places you will go to if you don't clean your plate. We'll also be talking about other fun stuff and more so bring your friends and come join us in A203 this Thursday! Also don't forget to fill out our quick membership form so we know how much food to bring for this meeting! http://bit.ly/15Hg65w Foxy Fact of the Week: Many Asian cultures including Chinese, Korea, and Japanese believed foxes were highly seductive female demons who were extremely devious and cunning. Many would lure their prey - usually men - into sleeping with and killing them by ripping and eating their hearts out. They would gain a tail each time and after nine tails, turn into their human form. The nine tail concept is popularized today by Japanese animes such as Naruto and the Pokemon Ninetails. Nowadays, if we want to call someone a backstabber or accuse them of adultery, we call her a fox spirit - or 狐狸精 (Hu Li Jing). Come tomorrow to A203 to practice your calligraphy skills! We will be using real Chinese Calligraphy materials so specialized brushes, ink, and paper will be provided. We'll practive the basic character structure as well as writing your name in both English and Chinese and painting pandas! For those who do not have a Chinese name or have fogotten the one your friends have chosen for you, we will help you guys get another one! Also don't forget to fill out a membership form: http://bit.ly/15Hg65w Street calligraphers in China practice contemporary calligraphic practices in public spaces with brush and water, endlessly producing beautiful words that evaporate into thin air. (http://theculturetrip.com/asia/china/articles/dishu-a-look-at-china-s-street-calligraphers) If an egg rolls downhill, does that make it an eggroll? Roll on over to our first meeting with our new advisor THIS THURSDAY in Mrs. Chang's room (A203) at Lunch to learn more about Chinese culture and to grab some free eggrolls! Bring your friends and lunch. Don't miss out! Throughout the year we'll be holding Chinese contests (karaoke, essay, speech), pearl milk tea parties, movies, and more! Have a lovely week and see you this Thursday! Love, MV Chinese Club Hey MVCCers! Welcome back! Club day is coming up soon, so come by MV Chinese Club's booth to grab some awesome ice cream mochis! Eat rice on a weekly basis? Love tigers and pandas to the point of obsession? Those are all neat, but it's definitely not what we require and not what we're looking for. The Chinese Club is now recruiting new officers for the school year of 2012-2013 and we're looking for people who are dedicated to the club, excited to be an officer, and ready to help us out! If you feel that you have some great ideas and activities for next year and want leadership experience, join us in spreading new points of views about a widely misrepresented cultural by applying to be an officer! The application is due by Wednesday, May 22nd in Mrs. Ju's room (Portable 2) or by email at [email protected] (ignore the application date) The application and job descriptions are attached. We encourage everyone who is interested in Chinese culture and/or the Chinese language to apply! And popular to contrary belief, you do not need to be Chinese in order to be an officer. See you soon and best of luck on your AP exams, MV Chinese Club
