Hey members! This week, we'll be playing a traditional Chinese game, Jian Zi (毽子)! Jian Zi (毽子) is a birdie or shuttlecock made of feathers, usually from geese, and a rubber base. The game of kicking Jian Zi (踢毽子) is highly competitive and can be a match of one on one, two on two, or even three against three. Kicking shuttlecocks as a game is widely circulated in China and a national sports event with a long history. According to historical documents and relics, this game originated in Han Dynasty (25—220) in China, and became popular in the Sui (581— 618) and Tang (618-907) Dynasties. In Ming (1368—1644) and Qing (1644—1912) Dynasties, it developed further. The development of this game reached its peak during the late Qing Dynasty, and more and more people began to participate, not only to exercise, but also for good health. The game of kicking shuttlecocks can enhance the mobility and flexibility of the body. Especially in the winter, playing this game both enhances blood circulation and increases the body's resistance to cold. Now that you know all of this, be there and be prepared! Don't miss out! Hey MV Chinese Members! Thanks for being part of our meeting last week! We hope you had fun! As you might have known, the Terracotta Warriors are at San Francisco's Asian Art Museum up until the end of May, so we suggest you check it out!
